Artist's Description
This abstract figure is a metaphor for the pushback, or backlash of an oppressor when the oppressed challenges the status quo and wins some measure of justice or freedom.
In this piece, the the chain of the ball and chain has been broken, but the ball has been hurled back at the still bruised and battered victor, knocking him back down to one knee...the battle was won but the war rages on.
This original painting is done with professional quality acrylic paint, and has been clear coated to protect it from dust, dirt, and uv rays. It is signed by the artist, Jim Whalen, on the front and signed titled and dated on the back. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.
About Jim Whalen
Jim Whalen has been involved with visual arts all of his life, drawing inspiration from both the world around him and his inner spiritual life and expressing it through color, line and form. -- ''Whether I'm exploring nature, or man's imprint upon it, or human emotion or spirit, color is at the foundation of the metaphor. Whether my work is representational or non-representational, I deconstruct a moment, a place, or a feeling and recreate it in line, form and color. The essential thing, for me, is to offer a visual expression of those things in our human experience that words cannot express.'' -- Jim Whalen I accept Paypal for the Purchase of Originals Paintings. Wow, what a very emotional and dramatic piece. The ball and chain hitting his shoulder (don't know if intentional but feels like it has a face) when he is almost down and the chain around the other shoulder, the chain on his wrists.. we can feel the torment and the pain. Great work!
Jim Whalen replied:
Thank you for your kind words, Maggie.
